As our organization expands its deployment of Glean Agents, managing agent definitions purely through the UI is becoming a bottleneck for version control, auditing, and environment management.

export and import Glean Agent configurations

 (e.g., standard JSON/YAML files) via both the UI and APIs.

Currently, modifying an agent’s system prompt, tools, or knowledge source bindings happens in-place without a built-in diff history.

Exporting definitions allows teams to commit agent specs into code repositories (e.g., GitHub/GitLab) to track changes over time, run pull request reviews, and quickly roll back if prompt adjustments degrade performance.

Multi-Environment Migration (Dev / Staging / Prod):

Recreating complex agents across different tenants or environments currently requires manual copy-pasting of prompts and tool settings, which is time-consuming and prone to human error.

Offline inspection of agent prompts, assigned tools, and context sources makes internal AI safety, security, and compliance reviews significantly easier.

Admin teams gain the ability to log snapshots of active agents for internal audit trails.

Engineering and operations teams can easily share proven agent templates across business units without requiring manual setup each time.

 button on the Agent details/settings page (and an equivalent API endpoint) that downloads a schema-validated 

 file containing the prompt, tool references, parameters, and metadata.
